Ignite. Empower. Imagine.
Carrie Otto was born and raised in Gresham, Oregon, graduating from Sam Barlow High School. After graduation, she jumped into the work world. Over the years she has had positions as a Receptionist, Billing Clerk, Payroll Clerk, Human Resources Assistant, and a Patient Relations Representative. In 1997 she and her husband Wendell adopted their daughter Mikala. For the next 6 years, she was a stay at home mom. When her daughter entered elementary school she volunteered in her classroom as well as for the school carnival, auction and fun run. She realized then that she absolutely loved being in a school environment and helping the kids to learn and grow.
Three years later she left her job at a Chiropractic office and applied for a position within the Sherwood School District. She was hired in October 2007 as a Special Education Instructional Assistant. She enjoyed this new career change. She believed she had found her niche.
In September of 2016, she decided she needed a change. She knew she wanted to continue working with students who had language-based and other learning difficulties. She also wanted to be in a smaller school environment that focused more on those challenges. A good friend of hers has two children who are dyslexic and she saw them face many challenges over the years within the public school environment. When she came across Park Academy and saw the articulated curriculum they have for the students and the smaller school environment, she knew she needed to be a part of it.
